In conjunction with Fingal County Council, Sophia Housing has built and developed a transitional housing programme for twenty families, consisting of twenty houses, a crèche, meeting/counselling rooms, staff facilities, caretaker apartment etc. on a site of approximately once acre. Building work commenced in June 2003 and was completed in mid-2005. The project is operated and run by Sophia Housing. The Donabate Project was officially opened by President Mary Mc Aleese on Thursday September 15th, 2005.
Outreach Transitional Programme
We are also working on an outreach transitional programme with Fingal County Council. This consists of 6 houses throughout the Fingal area and transitional support is given to the families in their own homes. When the programme is finalised the houses will be handed back to the Council. The families will stay in situ and Fingal will give us alternative housing so that we can work with 6 new families.
The project at Donabate has also won a prestigious architectural award.
